It’s all about logistics, perfect team work, heavy material and enough food
What stands at the other end of properly prepared data series, detailed scientific analyses and final publications? The “hard and dirty” work: fieldwork!
Our fieldwork in Greenland this summer was challenged by complex logistics, the transport of heavy material (not by helicopter, but by container ship and by foot), the short-term drop out of important colleagues, the short-term familiarization with unknown methods, everyday things such as shopping, cooking and washing up, as well as social components such as continuous communication, cozy get-togethers, regular card-game tournaments and individual freedom.
All this seems to be necessary for a successful field campaign with happy participant; and even before collecting the first data. But… just have a look at our photoblog yourself 😉
