🎙️Literary podcast: which role could novels play in sustainability transformations and transitions?

· by Zélie Stauffer · in Sustainability, What's new

If you share my passion for books and the dialogue they engage with our lives and our society – and you speak French (or want to improve it!) –  this is a podcast channel for you! 📚💬

In partnership with the Chair of Modern French Literature at the University of Zurich, I want to explore how books mirror our lives, cultures, and societal crises — and how they inspire alternative ways of thinking, paving the way for innovative change. 🌍✨

I’m a PhD student in human geography at the University of Zurich. My particular interest lies in the intersection between literature and environmental causes. I offer podcast episodes in the form of monologues and interviews — entirely in French 🇫🇷🎙️

A few concrete examples:

📖 Episode 1 introduces (without spoilers!) the novel Madelaine avant l’aube, raising powerful questions:
– Do we, as humans, truly have control over natural hazards?
– Should we abandon our Promethean stance toward nature and re-establish a more respectful relationship with it?
– Is rebellion against an oppressive, authoritarian state ever necessary or justifiable?

🌱 Episode 2 features a dialogue with Salomé Perret, a researcher in literature and sustainable development. She speaks about animism, relationships with nature, non-Western alternative narratives, and the neurological importance of storytelling in our everyday lives

💭 Episode 3 dives into a more theoretical discussion, laying the foundation of narrative ethics: how do stories affect us, as readers?

🥳 New episodes following similar formats are coming soon! You can find the episodes on this website:
